Our Programs

Programs and its Geographic Distribution 

EFDA pursue integrated community development approach as a means to promote efficient utilization of limited resources and exploit the benefit of executing interrelated activities. Program approach being the case, basic education for children, community livelihood, environmental sustainability and societal peace makes the building blocks of EFDA’s intervention.


Education

EFDA firmly believes that without creating quality education to children, it is practically impossible to bring about sustainable social change. Based on this assumption EFDA has been implementing educational projects adopting different strategies such as the Alternative Basic Education, Within-system Education Quality support, and Accelerated Learning Program for out of schools children. 

Livelihood Diversification

Livelihood diversification is a food security and climate adaptation program which aims to diversify and develop the livelihood bases of the community so that they attain sustainable food security and live as hunger free society. At conceptual level diversifying source of community livelihood is a strategic approach to promote adaptive measure to the ever changing climate and its implications. Under this program projects such as improved beekeeping, animal fattening, introduction of various agro-forestry trees, improving local stocks through hybridization and the like. These king og projects were financed by HEKS-Ethiopia, SIDA/CCRDA, Swiss Embassy, Christian Aid and implemented in Horro Woreda of Oromia and Maokomo Distrcts of Benishangul Gumuz Region.  

Peace building

In recent times Ethiopia is affected by various forms of conflicts and lack of stability. As a result EFDA have adopted peace building as one of its program area since 2019 and implementing projects that aspire to enhance community conflict prevention capacity and resilience to the impacts of lack of peaceful life. These project were funded by Pact Ethiopia and Dexis Consulting Group and implemented in Western Wollega and bordering woredas of Oromia and Benishangul Gumuz. The one underway in western wollega pays emphasis to strong youth engagement as means to deter violence and support peaceful resolution of conflicts including with government. 

Community Health

As health is an important aspect of societal wellbeing; EFDA has a program to contribute to improvement of community health focusing on education and information communication. The most common projects in relation to this project are the HIV/AIDS awareness creation, and community education on sexual reproductive health. This program also includes clean water supplies for rural communities through water well development and spring protections, along with sanitation education. Depending on a call by the Ministry of Health, EFDA also frequently participate and support national vaccination programs such as polio  

Geographic Distribution of Projects

EFDA is active implementing projects in Oromia and Benishangul Gumuz Regional states. In Oromia, Primary Education projects are underway in South West Showa zone: Becho District, East Wollega Zone: Sibu Sire District, and East Harerge Zone: Babile Districts. Similarly primary education quality improvement project is being implemented in Assosa City Admin, Assosa Zuria Woreda, Metekel Zone in Mandura in collaboration with DfA with fund availed by the Education Development Trust. The peace building project in Oromia which was designed in response to the precarious situation in western wollega is financed by the Dexis Consulting Group. It has covered the Gimbi, Nedjo and Kiltu Kara Districts targeting engagement of youth in the peace building process.  

Networks and Partnerships

The implementation of various projects and programs of EFDA to reach out to its beneficiaries are not without benevolent supports and charities of various organizations and agencies. These points of supports can be viewed in two forms. The first group of organizations constitutes those likeminded organizations with which EFDA has functional relation as member to the same network. They include CCRDA, NeSCO and other consultative forums. The second group of organizations includes those who fund EFDA’s programs and are engaged as well in its technical capacity building. The current groups of organizations who fall under this category include: Geneva Global Ethiopia, Education Development Trust, Consortium of Christian Relief and Development Association (EFDA), Dexis Consulting Group and the International Republican Institution (IRI). In addition, EFDA has a parallel working relation with other CSOs particularly for the purpose of joint fund raising and program implementation. The catholic secretariat, and Development for All (DfA) are those organizations with whom projects are being underway.
